Subject: At Sea

We departed Punta de Mita on Thursday, 4 April. We had a couple of hours of nice sailing but the wind got light as it got darker and since we wanted to clear the shipping lanes as fast as possible, we motored the rest of the night. Anyway, we have been sailing since Friday morning in fairly strong winds. Normally, the winds would have a northerly component which would favor us, but as luck would have it, our course is to the SW and that is where the wind is coming from. The seas are fairly lumpy and it makes for uncomfortable sailing. This will be short as it is difficult to balance myself while composing this. We hope to have more favorable winds within the next 4-5 days. Right now, about all we can do is cook, eat, wash dishes, sleep and stand watch. I have had a couple of interesting experiences reefing and changing sail while being bounced around. Oh well, that's part of the game. The web site address I gave you where you could see our track was in error. The correct address is: The key is my ham call sign, KC7MAR. Right now our current position is: 18deg,51min N;107deg,48minW. This is all I am able to do now with the sea conditions, but we are fine although sleep deprivation is a real problem.

Bye for now. Love, Sonia and Smokey
