We talk alot about illegality and ignorance in high places. Sometimes we need to bring home the terrible truth that this is a reality and not just a necessary talk item of LABOR. Well, we have the greatest possible proof here of interference with COUNCIL affairs by IRO. Our Council representative, paid by your dues, is not here today because of MANAGEMENT INTERFERENCE.

WE MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT.'

Read our contract. Article VII, Sections 12 and 13, very clearly guarantees to the BREMERTON METAL TRADES COUNCIL the right to have our representative, LEE A. HOLLEY, present and in here. We made written application for him to be present at your steward's meetings on July 5, 1974. He was hired as Council representative on July 1, 1974. Written permission was granted, at first, on the condition that an escort be provided by the PSNS police; latter, the Council President was made representative.

MR. HOLLEY flew back from ALASKA last night to attend this meeting, at NOON today, because of the importance of the COBB grievance and the radiation dirty pay grievance, which you had requested he discuss. This was a great cost and he did gladly to assist us. But it has turned out to be at a cost of his service to us, which we will bill PSNS at $200, but also for round-trip airfare at $600. And in addition to an ULP, a ripe federal civil rights action by him and us as union members is being discussed.

About an hour and a half before the meeting, we received a letter from management that read "Arrangements for access of Lee Holley to enter the Shipyard on Wednesday as contained in my letter of 16 July, 1974 are rescinded herewith." No reason was given. No abuse was ever claimed or mentioned to any of us that could be corrected so there can be no claim of abuse of the right. In fact, it appears clear that their, has been management spying on our meetings, and management is upset by the truth that Mr. Holley tells about their violating the laws of our government.

HAS ANYONE HEARD ABOUT COVERING UP ILLEGALITIES? HAS ANYONE HEARD ABOUT RUTHLESS ATTEMPTS OF PERSONS IN POWER TO QUASH THE TRUTH? WHAT DO WE AS HUMAN BEINGS THINK ABOUT THIS? WHAT ARE WE WILLING TO DO?

IF MR. HOLLEY WAS NOT BEING EFFECTIVE DO YOU BELIEVE THEY WOULD TAKE THIS OBVIOUSLY ILLEGAL ACTION. THIS IS A MANAGEMENT LOCKOUT - AS ILLEGAL AS A STRIKE. THIS IS FIRM PROOF THAT ILLEGALITY REIGNS AND WE MUST STOP IT.
